Leeza Gibbons celebrated a milestone birthday this year – the big 6-0! But it hasn’t all been a magical red carpet ride. The TV personality talks candidly about the family heartaches she has faced and the difficulties of aging gracefully in show business...

Leeza Gibbons turned 60 in March, but you’d never know it. The 5-foot-8-inch blonde, who waltzed with dancing pro Tony Dovolani in 2007 on Dancing with the Stars, still looks youthful, beautiful and energetic.

But don’t be fooled by her sunny smile: Gibbons has paid her dues in stress and sorrow.

On the cutthroat TV series Celebrity Apprentice, rivals told her she was “too nice to win.”

“Most people [wrote] me off as being too nice to get ahead,” says Gibbons, who surprised everyone and persevered and won season 7 of the reality competition.

The easy dismissal triggered feelings she’d had about people saying the same thing throughout her career, and she responded by starting her book, Fierce Optimism (Dey Street Books). It explains her philosophy about bouncing back from disaster: “There’s great upside to facing the downside.”
